This award was achieved through the efforts of every winemaker, said Tonči Marijan, whose 2021 Plavac Plaža is one of the 50 wines to receive the Decanter's Best in Show title. He added that the initial shock was followed by great joy and a small family celebration, and that he feels like he is living a beautiful dream.
No marketing, no fairs
We have been building our story through Decanter for years, from a gold medal and 95 points in 2019, through 94 points and a high-scoring silver last year, to this pinnacle of success. We do not engage in traditional marketing or exhibit at trade fairs, competitions are our only path. That is why it is especially gratifying that a family winery from an island, run solely by my daughter and me, has reached the global summit and showcased the richness of Croatia’s indigenous grape varieties.
Credit to Vinistra
I thank Vinistra and its team for their long-standing support and promotion of indigenous varieties, and for bringing Croatian wines in front oh the most important international judging panels. Vinistra deserves the greatest credit for the global success of our indigenous varieties, said the biggest Croatian small vintner.
