The wine is unfiltered. It has a muted color, somewhere between pink and red, and a very gentle aroma. Initially fruity, it reveals herbal notes, a warm, green quality reminiscent of a garden drying in the sun after a summer downpour. The taste is fresh and fruity yet full-bodied, almost rich, coating the palate beautifully. It glides smoothly down the throat, leaving a lingering sensation that remains for several minutes after the sip. It paired excellently with oven-roasted catfish, potatoes and pumpkin, served alongside blanched Brussels sprouts.
A bottle of this wine costs 8.75 euros at the Podravinoteka shop in Đurđevac. Cabernet Cortis is a cross between Cabernet Sauvignon and a complex hybrid of American wild varieties and a European variety: specifically, the cross Merzling x (Zarya Severa x Muscat Ottonel). Breeding in Germany endowed it with resistance to grapevine diseases. Visually, the grape cluster resembles Cabernet Franc, while the wine’s herbal aromas are reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc. These two varieties are the parents of Cabernet Sauvignon.
